I still use Sam Palmisano's message to the world on November 6 as a call-to-action. He invited all of us across the world into a new bold vision of "A SMARTER PLANET: The Next Leadership Agenda" in his address to the Council on Foreign Relations in NYC,"...a period of discontinuity is, for those with courage and vision, a period of opportunity." He defined current realities for leaders and innovators. He painted a vivid picture of a SMARTER PLANET. He called for new leadership qualities. "Together, we have to consciously infuse intelligence into our decision-making and management systems...not just infuse our processes with more speed and capacity. ...I believe we will see new leaders emerge who win not by surviving the storm, but by changing the game," he told us.
How will we "change the game" through people? Organizations and individuals across the world are learning that the art of putting DIFFERENCES to work is the fastest way to accelerate the generation of those new ideas and innovations and new levels of leadership and high performance that will make up a SMARTER PLANET. Each of us needs to strengthen our portfolio of skills to lead the way. Are you ready?

This is just great!! I wish I could attend...alas, I will be on a plane to South Africa. Why? Because IBM is sending me for a month-long trip there as part of the IBM Corporate Service Corps...so you can see the company takes this seriously :-)
Anyway, best luck with the event...Ron is a great speaker -- very passionate and incredibly knowledgeable. I know it'll be great.

We will miss you and will probably talk about you as a great example of IBM being serious about a SMARTER PLANET.
I can't wait until you return to hear about your trip! Perhaps we can do a DIALOGUE around it :-) It would be great to hear a first hand view...
