The greaterIBM Machinimania Challenge

Greetings greaterIBMers! One of the most exciting aspects of virtual worlds is the ability to create films inside them called “machinima”. Your challenge is to collaborate with other members to create a short (less than two minutes) video trailer about greaterIBM that will explain the network and some of its main features, using the 3D virtual world Second Life.

Entries are due by January 31, 2007, and must be produced by a team of 2-4 people from the greaterIBM network. If you are not yet a member, please join greaterIBM here. Teams must include at least one alumni IBMer and one current IBMer.

Winning team members will each receive:

First prize:  An Archos AV500 mobile digital video recorder.

Second prize:  A Fabjectory model of their Second Life character

Third prize:  A $25 Amazon gift certificate

Even if you are new to Second Life or virtual filming, you are very welcome to enter. To support all teams, we will provide you with some support tools, including “The Art of Machinima” book & CD, and will run some training sessions in Second Life to share tips and ideas.

Finally, the judging criteria will emphasise innovation, concepts and storyline rather than amazing editing skills, to make the challenge accessible to all.

We hope that as well as being a lot of fun, this challenge will advance the kind of collaboration greaterIBM hopes to enable and give members the opportunity to showcase their creativity in our rapidly growing community.
